Impact Windows and Doors: Hurricane Risk Reduction
With the release of the 2023 Florida Building Code, we saw new building standards and updated wind maps that reflect the increasing hurricane risk to Florida homes. It is now more important than ever to upgrade to impact windows and doors to secure the most vulnerable point of your home. The State of Florida likewise recognized this risk and has made more programs available: among other financing options, My Safe Florida reopened Aug 4, 2025, and PACE Financing has widened.

Losses skyrocked in the 2024 hurricane season, with Hurricanes Helene and Milton together generating over 300,000 insurance claims and close to $5 billion in claims. Nearly half of residential insurance claims were closed without payment, mostly due to lack of flood coverage.

Floridians paid hundreds of millions in deductibles alone in the 2024 season (conservatively, we estimate 200,000 claims with a $5k deductibe average).
